Luxembourg is the only remaining Grand Duchy on Earth, meaning it’s ruled by a Grand Duke instead of a king or president. The royal family still plays an active role in national life.
Despite its small size, Luxembourg is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and a major hub for banking and European institutions. The European Court of Justice and parts of the European Parliament are based here.
Luxembourg City is home to the Bock Casemates. These are among the longest subterranean tunnels in the world (over 23 kilometers). These tunnels served for military defense and provided shelter during wars. Nowadays can be visited to discover part of Europe's military history.
They were the first country in the world to make all public transport free nationwide. This policy was implemented on March 1, 2020. It applies to all forms of public transport including buses, trams and trains.
Luxembourg have the highest rate of car ownership per capita in European Union. Based on recent data, there are more cars than people in this country due to high standards of living and demand for cross-border commuting.
